That wouldn't work that means blind would do nothing so that would have to be a elite stance then it would be called something along the lines of Kickboxer's Speed instead of Blinding Speed

Wow it sounds REALLY good! I always thought we needed more close up melee type classes. There are way too many spellcasters...

This is where I stopped reading. You can't just give it supermods that aren't available to other classes.

Chi, Ki, Qi all the same XD.

Seems like you made a Class only filled with Attack Skils.
Doesn't sound good.

What does it do in battle anyway?
Just hit?

its a good idea but the weapons/attacks are INCREDIBLY overpowered. and why does the kickboxer's technique attribute give you armour penetration? surely if they're just using their fists/feet they would have practically no armour penetration?

I study martial arts so I know a bit about this kinda stuff (just had to say that first) if you kick someone you're hitting with approximately 1.5x the force of if you punch them (unless you're a really good fist fighter) so 1% armor penetration simulates that. *ps. I'll fix the weapons and skills, and I really feel the game needs some class like this with nothing but attacks (though I forgot to add a self heal in their :P)*

*fixed weapons, skills, and other issues*

I used to be in martial arts as well. I have taken a Physics class, and I know that if you kick someone wearing metal platemail with your bare foot, it's not going to end well for the kicker.

I can't imagine a Tae Kwon Do (or whatever) expert being able to pierce metal with they're skin.

(I can't imagine someone being able to conjure a lightning bolt and shock someone with it...or more less likely the other person living from it) :P

If you've ever played a FANTASY game before, you'd realize not everything is bound within the realms of physics, but it's kind of fun to imagine.

Seeing someone slice through plated armor with they're feet isn't fun to imagine, it's just plain ludicrous and stupid.

You have no clue about, what for powers lie into our bodies.

A real Taek Won Do Master is able to kill you easily with his kicks, when they hit you with all their power at the right points.

Such a killer kick of a Taek Won Do will you you with far over 1400 Pounds...so far more than 700 kg of pure power on impact... this will crush easily bones, when it hits you being absolutely unprotected. its the most dangerous Kick a Taek Won do can perform, because its simple the most powerful and really has something of eastern martial arts moves and videogames a la Tekken (you know Hwoarang XD)

This power you will feel also, when protected through some thin armor...this kick is, as if a car overdrives you with like 100 km/h on impact... imagine such a car impact now with you wearing a soldier armor...you will simple fly away through this force. The Human body can be a cruel weapon, when trained perfectly, using aggressive self defending arts, like Taek Won Do, Shaolin Kung Fu, Karate, Ninjitsu, Muay Thai or Boxing/Kick Boxing.

I've seen on TV a test show, where all those kinds were on a competitive test, to clear out, which of them is the most deadliest martial art and with which of them you can perform the most powerful attacks.

In kind of sheer powerful attacks, the taek Won Do was with his killer kick on rank 1 !!!, followed by Karate and Kung Fu on 2 and 3
--------------

however, back to topic:

Whatever you changed... the concept is still way too overpowered...

There is no profession, that contains only of Atack Skills.. martial arts go not only about attacking... its far more the other way of thinking.... martial arts are way more self defensive skills, than pure aggressive attack skills, which sense are to kill and to destroy... that is not the sense of martial arts >.>

If you think that, than you must have played too much bad beat'em up games like Streetfighter, which are bad arcade games, which never turned into good beat'em up games in kind of gameplay, but stayed ever only as dumb "Button Smasher"

When you don't think so, thatn I hope you've seen at least one Bruce Lee Film or one of the older good films with Jackie Chan which were more about Martial Arts, then Comedy and Hollywood Stories, where you see, that Martial Arts is the way of most effective self defense only, where you only kill people, if you really must and you have no other choice.
Martial Artist should never get shown as slaughering War Machines, what they absolutely are not.

To show that, this Concept, btw the Martial Artist at all should have also self defensive attributes/ self heal skills based on his Chi Powers and Meditations.
One reason, why it would have been from the begin on best, when Anet would have made the Monks as martial artist profession, they fit most best to this role in every fantasy game and the healer role would have made the classical Priest Class....only because the class i name priest, doesn't mean, it has somethign to do with ingame religions, but priests represent much better the traditional healer class, than monks do, when you look at monks, you have ever the picture in your mind about Shaolin Monks, being martial artists, performing Chi Moves, which maybe also remind a bit on Dragon Ball Z/GT.
----------

Also Martial Artists should give the game more new good things, than having only a class, that will fight with bare hands (fist rings/claws) and feet.
The Martial Artist should give the game also 2H Battle Staffs and Nunchakus, because this 3 are the 3 most common ways of martial artist fight styles.

Bare/ 2H Staff & Nunchucks - all three together give the martial artist good different fighting styles, like the warrior has with Swords, Axes or Hammers

So the basic concept of Attributes for a martial artist class should look more like this:

(Primary)Pure Spirit > Chi Power Attribute for Buff Skills and Chi Attack Skills.
Every 3 Points in Pure Spirit will last negative conditions on the Shaolin 5% lesser (Xunlai/Zaishen however you want call it for Shaolin)(R15= 25% lesser duration of negative durations). Also the Attack Speed of Physical Attacks will increase every 2 points by 2% (R16= 32% quicker ASPD, then normal)

Arts of the Tiger > Nunchuck Skills
Arts of the Phoenix > 2H Battle Staff Skills
Arts of the Dragon > Fist/Feet Skills
Arts of the Kirin > Self Heal and Defense Skills (Stances and Meditations)

AL of this Class should be 70...the Shaolin (I keep that now, easier, then ever martial artist XD) is a front fighter, like the Dervish and the Assasin and both also have AL of 70, the Shaolin compensate simple his look of lesser armor must muscles strong as steel and a very strong sixpack *g*, also it isn#t so, that the shaolin wears totaly nothign XD
Armbraces...Tiaras, gloves, chains around the body ect.
---------

Knuckle Bracers > 5-30 max damage with the speciality of +20% rate for Critical Hits, when under a Meditation > tha is balanced ... not for every crap here and there ever +20% more Damage oO together with already high possible max damage. this counts for al Fist/Feet Weapons, - no special abilities for douzens of different fist weapons, therefore are the WEAPON UPGRADES there oO
With a little chance to hit a foe for Chain Combos (starting a row of skills, which will be uninteruptable and unblockable) Therfore must be the foe Dazed.
When performing a Chain Combo, Skill Energy Costs is for the moment of Combo halved).

2H Battle Staff
8-16 is slightly slower than Fist and feet/ but still quicker than a sword naturally, but has higher average damage due to hitting 1 foe nearly always twice (base chance is 50% for double hits) but with Battle Staffs you can't perform critical hits. Can hit up to 3 multiple adjacent targets at once.

Nunchuck (2H) is hybrid between Staff and Fist-Style
12-24 (or 11-22) Can perform critical hits, unlike the Staff, but hits only one target. Has 20% Chance for interrupting Counter Attacks when avoiding physical attacks

The Shaolin would have his own source of energy to perform Skils, some require energy, but for others, like Meditations, the Shaolin would have to gather up Chi to persorm the skills.
Chi would work similar to Adrenaline, with the difference, that Chi builds only up, when you use Skils, that use up normal Energy, each time you use a skill that needs normal energy, the Shaolin receives half the energy cost as Chi Power
-------------

HP > 480
Energy > 30
E-Reg > 2 (+1 when under a Meditation)

so far on the basics by my side

It's hard to counter that hardcore nerdbombing; although I'll give it a shot.

To say that you can deliver a kick at 100 km/h is just plain ludicrous. There is just no way to have that much acceleration through your leg in about a second (give or take a half-second, if you're kick is longer than that, it's basically useless). For anything to jump from 0-100km in one second is just ridiculous, I don't know where you're getting these "facts" but they're certainly not from the real world.

Since we all know "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction". That means if you deliver a 1400 lbs impact kick, 1400 lbs is impacted on YOUR leg, which would easily shatter your bone, without any padding on your leg, of course.

Newton's third law does not apply the same way in such situations, I've actually learned how to maneuver my leg so that the reaction force transfers to the ground instead of to me *already got yelled at for straining the support beams heh heh*

But on topic along with phoenix, as you can see in the ki section and several other skill sections, there are more stances and defensive skills then there are actually offensive skills. (Mostly stances or ki skills but hey, it's either that or put in some stupid adrenal skill). And as for the battlestaff what part of hand to hand combat don't you understand?

Also to everyone who posts after me, please refrain from quoting exceedingly long posts. If you are going to quote something I would urge you to only quote the parts you need and nothing more, everything past that just wastes space on this thread and is disrespectful to others.

My Mediator was a Martial Artist.
The Mediator used Self-Defence and Buffs to fight in Battle.
Check it out with my Latest Templar(w/ Martyr Crusader in it)
Have Fun^^!

I have atleast 2 Martial Arts in my mind^^.
Closed Fist and Open Palm.
Closed Fist delivers Raw Agressive Power to take down Foes, Causing Tromendoues Attacks but putting down Defence.
While Open Palm uses Defensive Techniques, Alot of Counter Attacks, Defensive Stances and Most Attacks instead of Dealing Tromendous Damage you Stun, Cripple, Daze, Crack Armor Foes while Closed Fist have Bleeding, Cripple too and Deep Wound, also Burning^^.
And last one is Scroll Casting or Mantra Magic, or anything bout Asian Scroll Magic, used to Help Allies or Weaken Foes taken from my Templar^^.
BTW, these are Attributes.

ok, I've took the car impact power too high, but couldn't remember correct now, what exatly was said in the Docu... so its still 56 km/h, still enough force behind it to break bones on impact, or will you say, that when a car hits you with this speed, that you will stand up after the crash, as if nothing would have happened ? sure not XD

@Darkhell: making this class only bare fisted fighting makes this class too boring and too "one sided", as mentioned, it would be just then only an assassine fighting without Daggers ... the Shaolin would just not be unique enough, thats the fact why this class needs more fight styles, especially when it offers from itself different natural fight styles, which belong to a traditional Martial Artist , like Butter on the Bread ...

This is, as if you would say to a Warrior, that they have to fight only with Swords, otherwise they would not be warriors oO. The Shaolin type of martial Artist is the perfect way to introduce to GW 3 very wanted new fight styles, thus also meanign 3 new weapon types, that are yet missing in GW.

The games has yet only Magic Staffs, thats stupid and boring, where everyone knows, that you can use Staffs also for Melee Combat very well.
Also the Nunchucks are a weapon type, perfect fitting to a martial Artist, the Nunchucks were THE weapons of Bruce Lee, he could handle them perfectly and Bruce Lee was the most well known Martial Artist worldwide and is it still even after death, hes a legend for his own fight style of Kung Fu using Chi, he is the inventor of Chi, which brought this word into the Kung Fu scene.
Would have Bruce Lee not been, nobody would know today, what Chi should be !!! Bruce Lee gave his own power an own name and that made im legendary. Whenever you hear this word, you automatically think about Bruce Lee.

Fist/Feet Sytle, Battle Staff & Nunchuck Sytel fit together perfectly to a martial Artist for Guild Wars. These 3 styles make the Class interesting enough for implementing, only with Fists and Feet as said its too boring, way to simple and it could be just an improvement of the Assassin for GW2, but nothing, that is alone worth enough to make an own Profession for it.

yea, maybe the body could give 1000 pounds of force, but that would be one of the most perfect scenarios for even the most skilled martial artist, and to be able to deliver that kind of blow repetitively... like, every 2 seconds (at most). To put a human through that kind of rigorous fighting would just be... insane at best.

Just, to say a bare foot has armour penetration seems kind of far fetched to me

I think a class with only attacks skills would be pretty boring, even 8 chain skills assassins use an attack chain spicing it up.

I used to do show wrestling myself... 6 years ago... ahh nostalgia, sprained muscles and twisted appendages...
Anyway, this class needs folowups, to illustrate, and I'm sure this is true for any martial arts;
You can do a double hook at any time, but against a foe who has better reach than you(they're taller than you, or can kick well) it will be far more effective to use a cradle to the grave.
Using a hangman is limitedly effective when you have not brought the foe off balance using double hook or something else that does that.

So instead of the current attack skills, which are pretty much similar to ones we already have and you repeated each one as a punch and a kick.
Have the boxing and kickboxing... replace the names, too similar.
Make them different 1 doing 1 role in the team another preforming another.
And have attacks kills that always work, not like assassin chain;
but work with conditionals like:
Grapple
Throw off balance
Pin
Parry

Skills would have conditional effects on causing and using those, the effects are like inflicting conditions that do nothing.
This absence of a negative effect allows you to add them add them to the game play passively; like, when a foes attack misses or is blocked they are always thrown off balance for the duration their next attack.

As for the Ki skills, they are somewhat boring and obvious.
Purification however is quite interesting, as unlike health saccing or "lose X health", its actual damage which could prove to be pretty cool.
